Resize changes dimensions

Resize is different from compression. Compression mainly reduces file size. Resize changes the pixel dimensions of the output video, such as 1280 x 720 or 1080 x 1920.

Default behavior: the video fits inside the target canvas while keeping the original aspect ratio. Empty space is padded rather than stretching faces or text.

Best settings and limits

Best first try

Use 1280 x 720 for a standard HD output. Use 1080 x 1920 for vertical output only when padding is acceptable.

When to crop instead

If you need to fill a vertical or square frame without padding, use Crop video before or instead of resize.

Browser limits

Very large source videos can hit browser memory limits. Desktop Chrome is the safest first test for resize jobs.

Frequently asked questions

Will my video be uploaded?

No. The selected video is processed locally in the browser tab.

Does resize reduce file size?

It can, especially when resizing down, but compression settings and duration also matter.

Why are there black bars?

The version keeps the original aspect ratio and pads the output frame to avoid stretching the image.
